Future Lighting x HKSKH ''Energy saving ambassador'' Volunteer Training

2015 / 08 / 29

Shortly following the "Eye Care Do’s & Don’ts" educational seminar, Future Lighting is again proud to partner with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Lady MacLehose Centre to help them with the "Mutual‧Love‧Energy‧Can help" program jointly organized by themselves and the World Green Organization (WGO). This is a sustainable community development & support program aimed at addressing local "energy poverty" issues; these could be anything from elderly switching off lights & living in poorly lit conditions for savings on high energy bills (prone to falls and accidents) to disadvantaged children studying in poorly lit environments (ultimately leading to eye issues / development problem) due to poor lighting provision in ‘subdivided flats’.

The program is a two-year rolling campaign; with the support of the WGO, trained volunteers will visit 150 ‘subdivided flats’ dwellers annually. Through these visits, volunteers will provide energy-saving knowledge / education & assessment to the individuals & families in need as well as appropriately issuing them with suitable energy saving lighting solutions donated by Future Lighting.

As part of the program, as well as product donation, Future Lighting is also responsible in delivering ‘lighting knowledge, energy saving and assessment’ training to the volunteers. This will equip the helpers with basic knowledge of lighting & energy savings know-how, and thus they will be able to identify & support families / individuals in need and initiate further follow-up(s) when necessary.

First training session took place on the 29th August at City University with another two more sessions planned in October; we were extremely impressed by the vast turnout of volunteers and their enthusiasm (mostly students from various local universities). Though, we can never get ‘too much’ help, hence we call out to even more passionate volunteers to contact us if interested in helping out, we’ll surely put you in touch with the right team at HKSKH – every little helps.
